Rs 130m approved for dualisation of MM Alam Road

LAHORE: The government has approved Rs 130 million for expansion of the MM Alam Road from the City Tower on the Main Boulevard to Hussain Chowk, Daily Times has learnt.
Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) chief engineer Khushhal Khan said the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had been asked to change sewer lines under the road, since the existing sewer lines could not withstand the increasing traffic load.
As soon as the WASA completes the sewer lines replacement work, the TEPA would start the construction, khan said.
He said the TEPA could not carry out the sewer lines replacement work on its own as the road was one of the busiest in the city, whereas the WASA had the expertise to do it and it was already replacing sewer lines under Guru Mangat Road.
The total length of the road being expanded was 3 kilometres and its width was 20 feet with 3 feet median in the middle, Khan said, adding that drains would be dug up on both sides of the road. He said the expansion of the road would help in smooth traffic even during the rush hours.
Gulberg Town municipal officer Ali Abbas Bukhari said that under the road expansion proposal, vehicles coming to MM Alam Road would enter from the Mini Market side and exit at Hussain Chowk Roundabout.
